With the creative ladies we went on an adventure ... an adventure with plaster ... Via pinterest we saw beautiful eggs made of plaster thought, "we want that too!"

So we went to the hardware store and one of the three ladies gave permission to use her kitchen....

But it was not easy .... it took many attempts before we had a nice egg ...

What tips if you want to try it:

Put quickly gypsum/plaster in a bottle of glass; put some water in (not much, because you want a thick gypsum paste, but not too thick because you want to pour it into a balloon ....); mix well (you feel that the bottle is getting hot); Meanwhile blow a balloon; put the balloon valve on the bottle and shake the plaster into the balloon; rotate the plaster around (keep doing that untill it is stiff), put the balloon 15 to 30 minutes in cold water. And then comes the hard part .... getting the balloon of the plaster egg without breaking it.... That went wrong with us many times..... the best way is to cut off the valve and directly stretch it out so that the hole is closed again, then try with a pair of scissors to cut the balloon and quickly removed it (the pressure of the balloon easily cracks the fragile plaster).

In advance we thought to make many eggs, which we could give away to friends and family.... but after an afternoon with a lot of fun, we finally had just enough egg shells for ourselves ....

After a week of drying, we decorated them with dry materials because we did not want to wet the egg. We used moss, tropical flowers and hellebore flowers from the garden. On the internet I found beautiful butterfly pictures, which I printed. After cutting them we used the butterflies into the piece.

What a colorful result, isn't it?

Kaars in een eitje - Candle in an egg

With less than forty days to go, it's time to Easter craft...

The idea of a candle in an egg arose. Nice to burn in solitude or to put into an Easter piece.

During baking, I gently tapped only the top of the eggshell and washed the shell. But how could I put a candle in it? ....  the mtohod below works ;) See the pictures above....

Put a thin layer of water in a saucepan and heat over low heat. Place tea lights in the layer of water. They will slowly melt ....

The wick-fuses also got loose from the socket .... but that can easily be mended by sliding back the fuses from the bottom into the socket (when cooled).

Pour the melted wax into the egg, place the wick back ... and wait until the candle is solid again

I'm really happy with the result and probably will make more before Easter

Onderzetters - Coasters

Crocheting coasters is a fun activity. Although I have made many before, the fun continues. You see it grow slowly and in an afternoon, you can crochet a whole set together. And it's such a nice gift, easy to send by post ....

In the meantime a continue crocheting, while the tits in the garden feast on peanuts and  special bird peanutbutter.

Spelletjesmiddag

Anyone who is a member of an association knows there are many volunteers needed to keep it running. This applies to every kind of association, from sports to natureclubs, and also for the music-association (orchestra) where I play in. Every year we organize a "Bazaar" to raise funds for the continuation of the association. I'm a member of the organising committee.... We organise a large raffle, Wheel of Fortune and a children's games afternoon. For the latter I invented en created games this year. Besides computer motion games, twister, giant mikado,  a big bouncer cushion, bathduck fishing and face-painting was also did crafting. With milk cartons we made bird houses and empty toilet rolls became bird candy rolls. Were also decorated cake pops and I had a giant hangman doll pieced together. I made it of packaging board, and paint. The 12 components are bound together with velcro. By creating two different hairstyles, we had a girls and boys version. My father made of recycled teapots and an old oak table 8 beautiful teapot birdhouses (prices for the Wheel of Fortune).

Also this year we raised enough money to survive another year. Luckily ....;)

Mohair col

At Ja,wol woolshop in Rotterdam I saw magnificent wool .... very thin mohair with different colors on one ball. And they had a nice example in the shop what to make with it: with knitting needles 4/5 and 1 ball you could make a nice col. And with the thick pins the result is transparent, airy and due to the mohair still warm. They had the balls in different colours and I fell for this blend ....

Knitting is easy, just knit (and no purl).... I knitted one piece and sew it together into a col. At the beginning and end I increased and decreased, so it fitts around the neck ....

So I will be warm and colourfull the coming months....

PS: Ja,wol in Rotterdam Noord is highly recommended by the way, a nice shop full of beautiful wool and they also organize various workshops.

Kaars in een theekopje - Candle in a teacup

As a Newyears and birthdaygift I made candles in a cup. I saw them frequently on blogs and pinterest. So went the last few months looking for nice teacups in thriftshops, saved candle stubs and bought waxed candlewicks at Pipoos. It's the first time, and it was easy to make. No mess in the kitchen afterwards..... I melted the candle stubs in a saucepan (and got it clean again after using....), taped the candlewicks on a skewer, leaving them balanced over the cup and then I filled the cups with the wax (just with a gravy spoon ...). And then let them solidify....

The bird cups were a birthdaypresent for twins, both of whom are fond of birds.
Beautiful thrift find, made to measure ....
